Banker On A Bike To Take On 18,000 Mile Round-The-World Trip
Retirement will be far from relaxing for former Devon Nat West executive, Steve James who is preparing to cycle around the world as The Banker On A Bike!
His 18,000-mile trip will be the equivalent of cycling from John O Groats to Land End 20 times … on some of the most inhospitable roads on the planet.
To meet the criteria laid down by the Guinness Book of Records, the distance must be completed, where possible, by travelling in a predominantly easterly or westerly direction, and Steve must pass through two points on the globe that are diametrically opposite, in his case Madrid, Spain and Wellington, New Zealand.
Steve’s journey, later this month, will see him travelling through Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and China, before he flies to to Perth in Australia.
His adventure then takes him to New Zealand, across America and to Nova Scotia in Canada, before he heads back to Plymouth via Spain and France.
Steve, 59, said:
“I have always undertaken ultra, and sometimes extreme, events but this is my biggest by far and coming in my 60th year it will present some unique physical and mental challenges.
“Whilst I have cycled before I have only been on a bike a handful of times over the past seven years.”
Steve will be raising money for two charities – Cancer Research UK and the Exeter Chiefs Foundation.
