Women in the Workshop

To mark International Women’s Day on March 8th, Co Create is excited to announce the launch of their latest fundraising campaign - Women in the Workshop. IWD is a globally recognised day to commemorate the cultural, political, and sociological-economical achievements of women.
Women in the Workshop is a course built to support women who’ve suffered abuse. One in three women are likely to experience abuse in her lifetime*. Since the lockdowns started in 2020, there’s been a 33% increase in domestic abuse reports, raising overall safeguarding concerns by over 20%*, a significant jump from pre-pandemic numbers.
Co Create is all about supporting recovery through making and creativity.
They believe helping women grow in confidence to complete practical DIY tasks can help aid their recovery and support independent living.
Each 4-week course will focus on an introduction to basic tools, how to use them and DIY problem solving. Each woman will build their own toolbox which will then be filled with tools for them to take home.
Co Create is an Exeter-founded social business that runs a variety of courses to aid in the recovery of individuals, from all backgrounds. Women in the Workshop is their most ambitious course yet- giving 100 local women of Exeter the freedom to leave sheltered accommodation more prepared to thrive alone. They’ve partnered with local women’s charities More Positive Me and Resilient Women, but now they need financial support to make it happen.
In order to run 10 courses for 100 women over the course of 10 months, John and his team of volunteers are looking to raise £25,000. They’ve already been hard at work and secured 10% of their funding goal from some incredible donors and partners - but they need your help. Whether you, or your business, your sports team, bridge partner or colleagues can spare as little as £15 to donate a tool or as much as £2500 for a whole course, the more people who can contribute, the sooner they can get to their vital work.
Inspired? Head to their website cocreatexeter.co.uk to donate. Want to know more? Why not join Co Create at 11AM on Friday 25th March, at the coffee morning in their workshop above the Sidwell Bakery. It’ll include a presentation on the course, a look over the toolboxes they’ll be making and answering your questions. Everyone is welcome.
