
InExeter Presents Five Nights Of Lights
This year Exeter will celebrate the start of the Christmas season with a special five-day event series, Five Nights of Lights. Taking place across the city from 13 – 17 November, the festive events presented by InExeter will see the Christmas lights switched on in all quarters of the city, with dance displays, spectacular carnival street entertainment, festive singing from the city’s choirs and live music.
The new format of community events will have Exeter’s residents and visitors at their heart, celebrating the city’s heritage, culture, its vibrant businesses and putting the city at centre stage.
Wednesday 13 November- North and South Street Sings
See local community choirs Harmonics Acapella, Unity Gospel Choir, Sounds Choir, Pauline Quirke Academy Choir, Theatretrain Choir, University of Exeter Choral Society and Exeter Street Choir come together to sing in a parade of music, lanterns and lights starting on North Street, finishing at South Street.
Thursday 14 November- Gandy and Queen Street Christmas Carnival
The streets will come alive with a carnival of colour, lights, music and festive celebration led by the Exeter Street Band and joined by Urbanflow Street Dance, Hannah Ruby, and The Richard Dale Theatre School performing FAME. Jam The Channel will be bringing a Bad Christmas Jumper Rave to the night, hosted by Dame Betty Bon Bon from Exeter Northcott’s Beauty & the Beast pantomime – where the baddest jumper will win tickets to see the show. Starting inside Exeter Phoenix, the parade will head to Queen Street and then end in Guildhall Shopping & Dining.
Friday 15th November- Stars at Sidwell and Paris Street
The evening’s festive parade will start inside John Lewis & Partners working its way through the store ending outside for people to see the lights switched on overhead in Sidwell Street and Paris Street, with a performance from Urbanflow Street Dance. The streets will be lined with pop up food and drinks stalls courtesy of the Sidwell Street Festive Food, Drink & Farmers Market , live music from Hannah Ruby, and craft activities for the children including sugarcraft stars workshops at Bake, star-themed craft workshops at Exeter Craft Hub, lino print Christmas card workshops at Hutch and drinks from Oddfellows Bar Nova.
Saturday 16th November- High Street and Castle Street Family Christmas Fair
Head to the heart of Exeter for a festive afternoon for all the family. With free arts and crafts, live music from Magnetic Meteors, Dan Caute and Hannah Ruby, pop up stalls and much more including lantern making, a showcase from Exeter Roller Derby, our Holly Horse Box Photo Booth outside H&M, plus don’t miss a special display fun bus from Stagecoach. Perfect for all of the family to enjoy together.
Sunday 17th November- Fore Street Festive Flea
Join the Fore Street traders for a festive afternoon of street food, indie craft and vintage gift shopping, live music and more. A full programme of live music, including Exeter Gospel Choir, Exeter Rock Choir, Hannah Ruby, The Hummingbirds and Dan Caute will play from the stage throughout the day. A lantern parade leading from the top of Fore Street to the stage will see the finale of the 5 Nights of Lights event series with the Fore Street light switch on.
