Relationships & Sex Education… Without The Awkwardness: Equipping Young People

New venture rePHRASE (SouthWest) was born out of the desire to provide healthy Relationships and Sex Education for young people that goes beyond educating about reproduction, risks, and disease. Effective RSE should offer a safe space to explore topics without embarrassment or judgement. Empowering others to make informed choices and develop healthy, respectful relationships, can help young people to be happy, confident and safe when it comes to their experiences of relationships, now and for the rest of their lives…and, in turn, positively impact society as a whole.

The Story…. “You want to be a what? …”

PJ, the founder and owner of rePHRASE (SouthWest), established this venture following a long-held passion and belief that every young person deserves access to good quality Relationships and Sex Education (RSE). Since the age of fourteen, PJ has been interested in working in the field of RSE and did a Psychology degree with the plan of specialising in the field of Sexual Therapy.

She recalls one particular year 9 parent’s evening…

…the teacher, looking really pale and anxious, leant forward and whispered to my parents, “you do realise your daughter wants to be a Sexual Therapist?”, at which point they replied “yes, it’s great isn’t it?!””

Skip forward several years and PJ’s passion to equip young people with the knowledge and skills to build and maintain healthy relationships, lead to her gaining a university accredited qualification in teaching RSE, facilitating the exploration of associated topics in a variety of settings. rePHRASE (SouthWest) was born out of the desire to provide healthy RSE that goes beyond educating about reproduction, risks and disease, offering a safe space to explore topics without embarrassment or judgement.

PJ provides an opportunity for exploration, reflection, and a chance to remove the perceived shame and taboo associated with some of the topics within the realm of relationships and sexual health.

rePHRASE (SouthWest) offers bespoke RSE sessions delivered by a qualified Relationships and Sex Educator, working with schools, youth groups, youth organisations, parents and 121. Using a variety of interactive activities and resources to ensure learning is fun, relevant and memorable rePHRASE (SouthWest) provides a well needed opportunity to dispel the (all too common) myths that can result in unhealthy and unrealistic expectations within relationships of all kinds.

“Effective relationships and sex education is one of the most important ways to improve sexual health in the long term for adolescents and young people.” (World Health Organisation 2016)

It’s time to change the conversation…it’s time to rePHRASE
