Partnership Secures Future Growth for Exeter Businesses

Future growth is on the cards for two Exeter based security businesses. Following a 49% investment by UK Protection Ltd (UKP) in Advanced Security Alarm Protection Ltd (ASAP) the two companies have created a partnership which provides a one stop specialist to meet customers’ varied security requirements.
Following the acquisition in October 2017, the two businesses formalised their partnership by coming together under one roof at new headquarters based on Marsh Barton in February 2018. UKP was established in 2015 by Andy Fairbanks and his wife Emma and ASAP was started 40 years ago by Derek Thorne and Tony Banfield but is now headed by Tony’s son Steve Banfield.
Whilst little known in the South West, UKP has experienced rapid growth year on year with turnover increasing by 53% in year two and 27% in year three.
Led by a team with over 80 years’ experience across a range of sectors including military, police and security, UK Protection (UKP) provides soft security solutions to luxury high-end retail and corporate clients throughout the UK.
Customers receive a bespoke service, ensuring security services provided become an extension of the client’s own brand. As a result, UKP has rapidly become the UK jewellery industry’s leading supplier of professional security staff and services, providing daily protection for over £100m of stock nationwide.
Services include: luxury retail guarding; control rooms and operations; mobile security and keyholding; corporate and concierge; consulting and bespoke services.
Better known in the South West, UKP’s sister company – ASAP – provides a large range of electronic security and monitoring systems, including: access control; CCTV; intruder alarms; fire alarms and extinguishers; security smoke; and in-house training.
Over its 40-year trading history, ASAP has become one of the South West’s leading electronic security system providers, offering a friendly, professional and prompt service to clients.
From schools and colleges to care homes and car dealerships, ASAP has worked across a number of sectors to create tailored solutions to business’ security needs.
Under the leadership of recently appointed COO Richard Smith, formerly Commercial Director of Mount Kelly in Tavistock, UKP has plans to expand and diversify its services throughout the SW offering an enhanced range of services to existing ASAP customers.
Richard’s early background as a police officer in Cheshire Constabulary, combined with his commercial and marketing expertise from latter years, puts him in a strong position to lead the company’s future expansion plans across the South West and further afield. In the meantime, Andy Fairbanks will remain in the business taking a more proactive role in driving growth and developing other business interests.
