Rockfish Exeter Opens This Month Thanks To HSBC UK Support
An award-winning chef and restaurateur in the South West has secured a seven-figure finance facility from HSBC UK to support his ambitious expansion plans for Rockfish restaurants.
Mitch Tonks, who owns The Rockfish Group and The Seahorse Restaurant in Dartmouth, will use the funding from HSBC UK to open three new Rockfish restaurants in 2019 – the first of which will open in Exeter on 18th March 2019.
The new Rockfish Exeter restaurant, which is based at the heart of Exeter Quay, will seat 90 people indoors and 65 outdoors once the outdoor area is complete. The funding has allowed Mitch and his team to purpose-build the 2,600 sq ft unit and employ around 35 new members of staff.
The two additional restaurants opening in 2019 will be in Poole and Weymouth, Dorset.
Mitch Tonks, CEO of The Rockfish Group, said:
“HSBC UK has been supporting us since 2015 when we consolidated our banking arrangements to better support our growth plans. In that time, we’ve opened two new Rockfish restaurants and have another three in the pipeline for this year, each of which will be supported by the bank. This latest funding round, put in place by our relationship director, Gareth Stephens, will help us continue on our mission to change the way people experience seafood in the UK.”
James Jordan, HSBC UK’s Area Director for Devon Cornwall and Somerset, added:
“Mitch has become one of the most respected and knowledgeable seafood chefs and restaurateurs in the UK, so we’re delighted to be able to continue our support of his business and put in place a new funding package that will help more people experience his culinary delights. We look forward to the opening of the Exeter Quay restaurants in the next few weeks!”
The Rockfish Group has twice been named the ‘best independent restaurant’ at the National Fish & Chip Awards. Its restaurants are located near the sea and specialise in serving fresh, local and sustainable seafood. Menus feature classic dishes, like fish and chips, as well as a daily selection of different seafoods which are landed that day.
The seven-figure funding package from HSBC UK was allocated from the bank’s £12 billion SME Fund which supports SMEs across the UK.
