Plans For A Lidl Store In Tiverton Have Been Approved
Members of the Council’s Planning Committee met on Wednesday 5th December 2018 to discuss the proposals for the store, which is planned for an area of land on the Foundry Estate off Blundell’s Road.
Officers from the Council’s planning team had previously recommended the plans be approved and members voted unanimously to approve the plans.
As part of the submission Lidl has put forward plans to demolish two existing buildings on the site and replace them with a food store of 2125 sq m and a non-food store of 1964sq m, along with landscaping and parking for 190 cars.
Members also voted to include a recommended section 106 agreement which will ensure the new development benefits the town centre and residents.
To comply with the planning conditions the developers must provide:
- £13,000 towards works identified by the Tiverton EUE, due to the impact of the development on the Heathcoat Way roundabout and Lowman way roundabouts
- £30,000 for an enhancement scheme for Tiverton shop fronts
- £30,000 towards the Tiverton Town Centre Public Wi-Fi Project
- £10,000 for signposting and seating improvements in the town
Cllr Richard Chesterton, Cabinet Member for Planning and Regeneration said:
“This decision is a welcome boost for Tiverton. We all know the retail industry is struggling so it is especially good to see that businesses still want to come to Mid Devon. More consumer choice is always good for our residents and should boost the number of people choosing to come to Tiverton to shop. The additional investments in town centre projects, which are stipulated in the planning permission, will help link the Lidl site to the centre and can boost trade elsewhere in the town.”
