HARRY’S RESTAURANT REOPENS AFTER A GRAND REFURBISHMENT
HARRY’S RESTAURANT brought cosy, casual dining to Exeter’s foodie scene for the last 25 years. But what does its new, refurbished incarnation bring?
Harry’s closed its doors on 20th August for a grand refurbishment and reopened just 19 days later, but what now awaits the curious diner inside?
The gothic style building on Longbrook Street underwent a serious facelift, carried out by high-quality craftsman, builders and designers who share a passion for attention to detail. The outcome is a fresh and timeless design that retains the warm and inviting atmosphere that Harry’s has been known for since it opened in 1993.
Owner, Samantha Pounds says:
“Harry’s is 25 years old in November. What better birthday treat than a grand refurbishment. Last year, we welcomed more than 34,000 people through our doors, which can take its toll on any establishment. So we’ve updated a classic! Harry’s now gives our guests a much better dining experience, in a setting that we’re really proud of.”
Martin Potts, relationship manager for South West SMEs at Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, said:
“Harry’s Restaurant has been a much-loved local restaurant for a quarter of a decade. It has a loyal customer base and classics on the menu that are firm favourites with diners. Lloyds Bank has supported the business from the purchase of the property in 2013, to present day with a six-figure loan enabling this timeless refurbishment. We are looking forward to working with the local business in its next 25 years to help it realise its aspirations.”
When asked about the new design, Samantha commented:
“For us, it’s wasn’t about designing a new restaurant, coming up with a fancy concept or following any trends. We simply wanted to provide more comfort and an even better experience to our guests, whilst finding a timeless style that looks great now and in 10 years’ time.”
The new design features curated historical images of Exeter, a brand new bar area and comfortable banquet seating. Inspired by the beauty of the building, space and architecture, the materials sourced include marble, wood and brick which while complimenting the existing exterior, add a contemporary and timeless feel to the inside.
The refurbishment was unveiled on Saturday 8th September 2018.
