August Editor’s Letter:
THE CONFIDENCE JOURNEY
It’s coming home…. well nearly anyway.
I would challenge you to think of a phrase that has captured the heart of our nation in the same way as that one did just a few short weeks ago. It seemed to sum up the new-found marriage in England’s football setup between youthful swagger and veteran composure and the result was a long-overdue renewal of belief in the beautiful game. It’s amazing what one man in a waistcoat can achieve…
Love or hate football, the phrase ‘It’s coming home’ acts as a useful reminder of the fact that most successful movements or marketing campaigns leverage themselves against a phrase or slogan that is memorable. For example, I need only to say, “Every little helps” or “They’re Gr-r-r-reat!” and you will almost certainly know the brands that I’m talking about.
As we have assembled this latest edition of Grow Exeter around the theme of ‘Sales and Marketing’, my team and I have had the pleasure of meeting some truly inspiring people. Whether Julie Sum, owner of Kensa Boudoir Photography, who has overcome significant personal difficulty to now help restore confidence in others; Ben Cheriton, serial entrepreneur by day and Tae Kwon Do instructor by night, or the hilarious and fiercely independent Luka Chitty, co-founder and co-owner of Lukas Barbers on South Street, there is something for everyone to feel inspired and motivated by.
More than anything, I hope that this edition encourages you to find your unique voice, rather than feeling the pressure to sound the same as everyone else out there. In a world of deafening white-noise, brave voices that dare to say something different are increasingly attractive and potent.
Go on. Be yourself. It might just make the world a better place.
