Free Digital Marketing Advice
With over 1200 businesses currently receiving support through the ERDF funded Growth Support Programme across Devon and Somerset, digital marketing is the most popular module that clients sign up for.
We caught up with Digital Business Adviser Matt Ballard from Cosmic to hear about the support he gives on a 1-2-1 basis to clients on the programme.
So Matt, what is a Digital Business Adviser?
I work with a wide range of businesses on the programme, delivering tailored diagnostic sessions that aim to explore and introduce new and emerging ICT products to improve competitiveness, productivity and growth.
I also help sole traders and micro businesses with their digital marketing, providing audits on their websites and social media marketing and giving them tangible tips to increase their marketing efforts and grow their business.
What’s your favourite part of the role?
There is a lot to like about the role, but what I enjoy most is making a difference and working with such a diverse range of great businesses. I’m doing that day in, day out working for COSMIC which is a successful social enterprise focussing on digital inclusion work across the South West.
The range of businesses I work with is staggering, and helps make this role so enjoyable. I’ve worked with landscapers, bakers, architects, brewers, a genealogist, hypnotists, scientific researchers – I could go on and on. The South West is a truly entrepreneurial region.
What is the most common issue that small businesses struggle to overcome in the digital world?
One of the most common issues I help my clients with is Search Engine Optimisation, or SEO, which is the practice of increasing the quantity and quality of traffic to a website through organic search engine results.
The keys to SEO success are authority, relevance and quality.
