Gemma Sparks: Family Law
Senior Associate and a Chartered Legal Executive of The Family Law Company, Gemma Sparks explains her approach to family law…
I have worked within the legal profession since finishing my A levels. I worked in Civil Litigation whilst studying towards becoming a qualified Chartered Legal Executive and although I will always be grateful of the work experience I gained during this time I always knew that Family Law was the career for me.
I joined The Family Law Company in 2009, specifically to concentrate on my preferred area of law. As well as being experienced in the wider elements of family law, I have particular expertise in the areas of private law children and domestic abuse. I feel that I bring a unique and unmatchable understanding due to my personal experiences of being in foster care from the age of 7 until I lived independently at 19.
Over the last 10 years I have gained a wealth of experience in dealing with children and domestic abuse cases. I go above and beyond by using my own experiences to help traumatised clients that come to see me. I am empathic and a good listener and can adapt the way in which I give advice to my client’s on a case by case basis. Where possible, I use a problem solving approach.
I work with the East Devon Citizen Advice by providing free legal advice via their Cranbrook outreach clinic which provides much needed help for local families. In 2017, I was the recipient of a prestigious DASLS award and in 2018 I was promoted to a Senior Associate within the company.
