We know that, in order to be consistently energetic, focussed and passionate in their roles, it is vital for business-people to get some downtime. So, starting this month, we will be collaborating with Becky Grinham (an Exeter-based musician who works in the music industry) to recommend an album or single that you can sit back and enjoy.

Pour yourself a glass of something tasty and kick back for a minute or two. You deserve it.

VELVET & STONE – ‘H  I G  H T  I D E’

Single release for Cancer Research UK – 24th July 2018

Indie-folk group Velvet & Stone release their new single ‘High Tide’ on 24th July 2018 in aid of Cancer Research UK. Described as “haunting” by Claire Balding on BBC Radio 2, and “brilliant” by BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winner Sam Kelly, the band have received a range of plaudits for their recorded music and live performances.

The new single plays on their evocative and ethereal sound, weaving themes of loss and gratitude through intimate vocals, delicate guitars and soaring violin. Likened to contemporaries Mumford & Sons, Laura Marling and Seth Lakeman, the band weave traditional threads through their song-writing; combining them with folk-revival and contemporary flavours to produce a unique and unforgettable sound.

The band have chosen to donate 100% of the profits from the song to Cancer Research UK.  Lara from the band said: “So many people that we know have been touched by cancer in some way, including our own families. With the release of High Tide, we hope to raise awareness of the invaluable work done by Cancer Research UK to improve our knowledge and understanding of the disease. It seemed very fitting for us that any funds raised from the single release will be donated to research to give hope to those who suffer from it and their families and friends.”

Cancer Research UK is dedicated to saving more lives by preventing, controlling and curing all cancers. The charity funds the work of thousands of scientists, doctors and nurses who are fighting over 200 types of cancer.

Annabel Coakley, Local Fundraising Manager at Cancer Research UK, said: “Thanks to Cancer Research UK’s work, more people are surviving cancer than ever before.  We are delighted that Velvet & Stone have chosen us to be the recipients of the proceeds of this single, especially because it is such a beautiful song with a personal meaning.  We wish them all the best, and hope that the public show their support by buying the song and helping to beat cancer sooner.”

Velvet & Stone are a four-piece band, fronted by founding members Lara Snowdon’s guitar and vocals, and Kathryn Tremlett’s violin. They are joined by Kev Jackson on guitar and Paddy Blight on double bass. Following the release of High Tide, the band continue to tour throughout the summer and autumn 2018, including festival appearances at Larmer Tree Festival (Wiltshire), Smoked & Uncut Festival (Devon), Sidmouth Folk Festival (Devon), and Weyfest (Surrey).
