Shextreme Film Tours – Celebrating Women In Adventure
In need of a boost of inspiration so you can feel supercharged ready to take on the world? Come join us for an uplifting and fun cinematic celebration of Women in Adventure! The world’s first film festival celebrating women in extreme sports and adventure, Shextreme launches its first UK tour this winter.
Leading the charge for gender equality in adventure filmmaking, Shextreme’s UK tour takes the best of the 2019 festival out on tour, electrifying audiences with an exciting and inspiring celebration of adventurous, active women.
Shextreme Film Festival positively transforms the way real, diverse inspiring women are portrayed on screen and behind the lens in extreme sports and adventure and after two successful Shextreme Film Tours of the South West, Shextreme Film Tour is now expanding nationwide. So far, cinemas in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland will screen the tour across Winter 2019 and Spring 2020 culminating with International Women’s Day on 8th March, 2020.
Our international action-packed programme is proudly F-rated: directed by women featuring active women. It includes some amazing new films:
Undercurrents is an award-winning UK surf documentary exploring our relationship to the sea and its link to our mental wellness, bringing in ideas from the Blue Mind movement, the science of mindfulness, compassion and flow.
Venture to Kuala Lumpur as we watch India’s first women’s ice hockey team as they compete for international glory in Cosima Barzini’s High Passes, witness slacklining in Russia in the experimental film Portal and enjoy a magic surf and ski journey in Norway with freeride skier Lena Stoffel in Circle Of The Sun.
Dr Ruth Farrar, Director of Shextreme Film Festival said:
“We’re thrilled to take Shextreme on the road. We’ve had cinemas wanting to book from across the UK and over the next few months we’ll be screening in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. We think this is just the start too! We know audiences will feel inspired after watching our carefully-selected films too – our research confirms watching our empowering Shextreme programme of female-led adventure films actively encourages women to spend more time outdoors participating in adventure sports, which leads to increased mental wellbeing.”
