Salcombe Distilling Co. were celebrating in style at the Deer Park Country House Hotel last night after collecting a flurry of awards at the annual Food & Drink Devon Awards 2017.

Hosted, for the third year running, by BBC Radio 2’s utterly brilliant Nigel Barden, Salcombe  Distilling Co. initially scooped a Gold award for their delicious and refreshing Salcombe Gin ‘Start Point’, shortly followed by the much coveted ‘Best Producer’ Award. Judges commented that Salcombe Gin has ‘clean, unique and well thought through packaging and the product is beautifully rounded, balanced, smooth and elegant’.  In addition, ‘the website has great imagery and interesting content’ and their social media was described as ‘faultless’.

The new category for this year, ‘Best Cookery School’ was also awarded to Salcombe Distilling Co. for their recently launched Gin School where the curious gin lover can develop and distil their very own bottle of gin. It’s been a busy year for this relatively new brand also launching a unique gin delivery service, delivering luxury Salcombe Gin hampers by water to nearby yachts, for the perfect summer sundowner.

Co-founders of Salcombe Distilling Co. are Angus Lugsdin and Howard Davies.
Commenting on the win, Angus says:

“We are absolutely thrilled with our awards! It is a fantastic achievement and we are immensely proud. Howard and I are very excited to be flying the flag for Devon and we feel very fortunate to be surrounded by such outstanding food and drink producers.”

Howard continues:

“We are delighted to have been recognised in our home county at the Food & Drink Devon Awards. We’ve had a fantastic year winning 3 Stars at the Great Taste Awards and have also achieved international success with Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirit Competition and Gold at the World Drinks Awards. We are hugely grateful to our loyal team and to Food & Drink Devon who work so hard to promote our beautiful county.

Refreshing, delicious and super-smooth Salcombe Gin is hand distilled in South Devon using only the finest hand sourced ingredients. The zesty blend of grapefruits, lemons and limes is a nod to the famous Salcombe Fruiters, who imported over 80% of the citrus fruits to England during the 19th century. Harbouring distinct notes of ruby red grapefruit, along with the heady, earthy pine notes of the finest Macedonia juniper, Salcombe Gin is the perfect balance of aromas and flavours with an amazing lingering finish.

Salcombe Gin ‘Start Point’ 44% 70cl bottle (£37.50) is available to buy nationwide from independent retailers, farm shops, delicatessens, directly at the distillery in Salcombe and online from the Salcombe Gin website
