Happy Easter at HITS Foodbank

Happy Easter at HITS Foodbank

Homeless in Teignbridge Support (HITS) Foodbank has been overwhelmed by the generosity of the community for helping children in crisis to have a happier Easter.

Dean Breyley of Devon-based company Grow or Die collected over 85 chocolate eggs and gifts from clients UK-wide during March to help to raise awareness of food poverty. This donation will be topped up by collections from the community in food bins based in local supermarkets.

Hazel, HITS Foodbank Volunteer, said:

“Thank you so much to Dean, his clients and everyone who has donated Easter eggs to the HITS Foodbank. Our role is to aim to prevent hunger and homelessness and we’re here to help families from across Teignbridge and surrounding areas who have hit crisis. However, whilst many lucky children over-indulge at Easter, some families need our help. The Easter eggs are distributed as a treat but more importantly show local children, young people and vulnerable adults in our community that we care about them this Easter.”

Last year alone, 750 emergency food parcels were given to children in need by the local volunteer-led charity.

Hazel continued:

“The community is fantastic in supporting our work to help local people facing hunger.”

HITS Foodbank is currently in most need of tinned fruit, instant coffee, tinned tomatoes, tinned vegetables and long life fruit juice. Items can be donated at Morrisons, Waitrose and Tesco. For more information visit www.hitsfoodbank.org
