Toby’s Harvest Festival – Celebrity Speaker Line-up Announced
TV gardener Toby Buckland’s Harvest Festival is returning to Forde Abbey near Chard in Somerset for a second year on 15th and 16th September. The two-day seasonal celebration brings together a host of experts, including Guardian writer Alys Fowler, Matt Biggs from Radio 4’s Gardeners’ Question Time and actor John Challis, of Only Fools & Horses fame, who will be sharing how he has created a garden at Wigmore Abbey in Herefordshire.
For green-fingered children, the Blue Peter gardener, Lee Connelly (aka Skinny Jean Gardener) appears both days, sharing fun and games and gardening know-how, assisted by The Higher Beings stilt-walkers who are on hand to teach tight-rope and circus skills.
Other highlights include great shopping from more than 150 West Country exhibitors, including plant nurseries, rural crafts and local food producers, along with practical workshops on paper-flower making with Wild Hive, growing cut flowers with Common Farm Flowers and wreath-making from My Scented Home. Around Forde Abbey’s renowned garden, there are daily tree tours, scything and meadow-making demo’s, plus garden photography sessions with Bristol photographer Andrew Maybury.
Forde Abbey’s gardens are at their autumnal best in mid-September, packed with dahlias and late-summer colour, an abundant kitchen garden, lakes, a meadow swirl and the UK’s tallest powered fountain at 160ft high.
Advance adult tickets £10, family and children tickets available. Dogs welcome on short leads, free parking. Toby’s Harvest Festival, 15-16 September, Forde Abbey, Chard Somerset TA20 4LU
