Quay Words Winter 2019/20 – A Celebration Of Words And Stories
Literature Works and the Exeter Canal and Quay Trust are delighted to announce Quay Words Winter, a second season celebrating words and stories at Exeter Custom House. Opening on Thursday 3rd October with a special event for National Poetry Day – Poetry, Place and Haiku with poet Sara-Jane Arbury in collaboration with the University of Exeter’s Places of Poetry project.
Quay Words Winter features both local talent and national treasures with a diverse range of talks, readings, workshops, writing surgeries and residencies. Throughout the winter, author events will run in Exeter Custom House on the second Wednesday of every month. The first is Poetry Positive on Wednesday 13th November with acclaimed novelist and poet Joe Dunthorne and celebrated performance poet Matt Harvey – the perfect antidote to those long, dark November evenings.
In addition to bringing some of the best names in literature to Exeter, Quay Words Winter provides a platform and development opportunities for local writers, from complete beginners to professional writers. There will be two sets of weekly courses running: one on a Saturday and one during a weekday evening. Local writers will have the opportunity to get advice directly from publishing industry professionals as Quay Words Winter teams up with The Writers’ & Artists’ Yearbook for a collaborative event ‘How to Get Published’ on Saturday 14th March 2020.
The schools’ programme provides the opportunity for three local schools to take part in a series of workshops with KEAP and their Writers’ Block immersive, theatrical creative writing project. These sessions will be all about inspiring the next generation of writers to think outside of the box and get creative with words.
Quay Words Winter runs from 3 October 2019 until 31 March 2020.
