City Centre Santa Takeover Is A Spectacle

Exeter High Street was turned fantastically festive this weekend – as hundreds of Santas took over the city centre. More than 625 people – from grandparents to babies in buggies – dashed down Exeter High Street for the annual Santa Run which is organised by CITY Community Trust.

Participants could choose from a 5k distance or a shorter family fun run. Pete Ferlie, health and wellbeing officer for CITY Community Trust, said:

‘It was an amazing morning, it’s always a real spectacle and a great way to properly kick off Christmas.’

Pete added:

‘We’re very grateful to our headline sponsors Tozers Law, event partners Exeter Live Better and Ola and to the support we’ve received from InExeter and Devon Highways. Thanks to this support we are able to keep prices low for our participants, ensuring the event is as inclusive as possible which is one of the key aims of our charity.’

Runners could choose to raise funds for charities of their choice, CITY Community Trust, or the organisation’s Santa Run partner charities; Children’s Hospice South West, Age UK Exeter, Force Cancer Charity or Exeter Leukaemia Fund.

Out of hundreds of Santas one runner was dressed as an elf. Mary Hall was raising money for Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF) following support from the charity after she was diagnosed with lymphoma.

Mary said:

‘Last year I was battling with lymphoma and with the support of all the team on Yarty Ward and ELF I am now in remission and making an amazing recovery! I took part in the Santa Run in aid of ELF to thank them for the fantastic support they provided me with during treatment.’
