Lightbulb Moment From the Energy Minister
Simon Nicholls, MD of Beco Energy welcomes the announcement from Claire Perry, Energy Minister, that solar power should not be provided to the grid for free. Small scale solar subsidies, Feed-in-Tariffs, are coming to an end on 31st March 2019 and this announcement is welcome news.
The Feed-in-Tariff has achieved its aim of stimulating the market and has resulted in a huge take up in the UK with over 800,000 installations to date. It is time to phase out these subsidies, however, denying small scale energy producers the right to sell power they do not use to the grid is punitive, counterproductive and only serves to subsidise the big six energy companies.
Simon notes that the Solar Trade Association recently sent Claire Perry a letter signed by over 350 organisations from across the solar, battery and electricity supply industries seeking just such an assurance so this announcement is timely.
Now that she has given verbal support Beco UK look forward to hearing what Claire will announce in the near future so that all of our customers in the South West need not fear providing all their lovely sunny energy to the grid for free.
