West Exe School – A Vibrant Community

West Exe School is a vibrant community, united in its commitment to creating opportunities for students and staff to achieve success.

Aspire Conference for Reach Students

Recently, students from schools all over the city of Exeter attended an ‘Aspire Conference’ at West Exe. The conference provided an academic enhancement day for the highest attaining students across the state secondary schools in Exeter. Over the course of the day, students were able to speak to different professionals from a range of industries, gaining an insight into the qualifications and educational routes they can journey on towards their career of choice.

Exeter Foodbank Donations

West Exe School recently launched an initiative to help support families in need around Exeter. During the autumn term, a ‘West Exe Foodbank Drive’ was organised where each tutor group in the School were assigned a family and students were asked to bring in items to fill a box full with produce with their assigned family in mind. At the end of the week, selected students then delivered the boxes to the foodbank.

Over 500 items were collected across the School, and at the end of the initiative the School had delivered over 300kg of food to the Exeter Foodbank.

Performance Table  Progress

Recently we were very proud to see West Exe School as one of few secondary schools in the region with above average for the headline progress 8 score in the performance tables. We are extremely proud of our students for working hard and achieving fantastic results which reflect this. We aim to build upon this positive position, and further our success this year by consistently striving to improve our harmonious learning environment and outcomes for students.

Production of ‘Grease’

This year, the West Exe students will be performing in a production of ‘Grease’ at the end of the Spring Term. Last year’s production of ‘Oliver’ was a great success, and we are expecting that this year the production will be equally good.

Celebrating over 40 years’ service to the school

West Exe School expresses its thanks to a member of staff, Dave Parsons, who has been inspiring and encouraging musical talent amongst our students for the past 40 years.

Sport is on the UP!

Many students have participated and represented West Exe School at events and competitions this year, displaying great dedication and achievements. WES netball is going from strength to strength with the players continuing to have a fantastic season. We continue to celebrate success in other sports such as football and rugby, and are excited to see students participate in other sports such as Golf, in the Inter Devon Schools Championships.

Partnership with Exeter Dementia Action Alliance

In early February West Exe School were delighted to welcome Gina Awad & Colin Bray from the Exeter Dementia Action Alliance (pictured in lead image), who delivered Dementia Friends Sessions to the Health & Social Care Students. West Exe is very proud to be an active member of the alliance and partnering in initiatives which raise action and awareness for dementia in the school. As part of this, we have appointed a Dementia Friends Champion, endeavoured to make our site more dementia friendly with recently introduced appropriate inclusive toilet signage and will continue to host Dementia Friends Sessions for students and staff.
