Stagecoach – Improvements To South West Bus Network

Stagecoach South West has announced that, from 27 October, there will be changes made to bus services in Exeter and East Devon, North Devon, Plymouth and Torbay.

The changes are being introduced following a review of all Stagecoach South West services, including analysis of the bus company’s route data. The continued growth and changes in travel patterns in certain areas have been taken into consideration.

The changes are set to provide customers with a number of benefits, including improved reliability and connectivity across certain routes in Exeter, Plymouth, Mid Devon, East Devon, Torbay and North Devon.

Furthermore, moving into the festive season, the three night bus services that operate across the South West will offer passengers greater choice when enjoying evening celebrations.

Stagecoach’s popular night bus services, that were first introduced in November 2018, will continue to run every Friday and Saturday night until 4am. The October service changes will see the N57 operate a revised route through Exeter City Centre, to allow passenger greater access to local amenities, with buses serving Paris Street New North Road, Queen Street and High Street, before continuing to Sidwell Street.

Other Exeter services are also set to benefit from positive changes. The B route will extend from Union Road to Prince Charles Road, where it will terminate near the Morrison’s store, while Union Road, Pennsylvania Road and York Road will be now served in both directions. Minor timetable changes to this service, as well as K, A and R/S routes, are set to result in improved punctuality and journey times. The popular Red & Green Park & Ride services are also subject to minor timetable changes.

In Exmouth, the seasonal open top service, the number 95, will finish for the winter months after operation on Sunday 3rd November.

Notable North Devon services, set for minor timetable changes, include the 21 and 21A, with the introduction of a new 0838 departure from Georgeham, on Saturdays, for onward journeys to Barnstaple.

The Park & Ride 200 Service in Plymouth will now serve all bus stops along the route and, from Monday 28th October 2019, this service will have extended operating hours to match later opening times in the city.

Plymouth residents will also be pleased that earlier journeys will be introduced from Plymouth to Derriford Hospital, on the 1 route, and from Tavistock to Derriford Hospital. Minor changes to the evening running times are also being made.

In the South Hams, earlier journeys will be introduced from both Dartmouth and Plymouth, on the 3 service, and there is now a departure at 19.40 from Kingsbridge to Plymouth.

South Devon services undergoing changes include the 7A, where improved connections to and from Paignton will be introduced early morning and early evening, and services 35A/35, with amendments to running times set to improve the punctuality of the service.

Timetable changes are also being implemented to seasonal services 12, 22 and 31, as the winter timetable is re-introduced, and the 122 open top services retires for the winter months after 27th October.

Other positive changes include improved frequency of the Fox service on Saturdays and minor running time amends on 110, 120, 30, 28 and Gold services to improve punctuality.
