Route 2 Café In Topsham Is Open! Cycle-Thru Today!
One of many Topsham businesses opening its doors after three months of closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic is Route 2 Café which is opening an all-day takeaway hatch serving hot drinks, ice creams, smoothies and cakes. Forget unhealthy fast-food and car fumes, the Route 2 Cycle-thru promises fresh air, fresh food and estuary views!
Owner Martin McGahey explains despite the challenges faced there’s little change to the business ethos:
“Virtually everything served is homemade on the premises, with ingredients sourced from local suppliers in the town. Cyclists enjoying Devon’s stunning Route 2 cycle network can leave bikes in a safe space next to the café as they queue, allowing for their usual pitstop – just alfresco!”
The all-day menu includes Crackhouse Roastery coffees, homemade cakes and delicious treats, refreshing smoothies and ice cream. Vegan, vegetarian, dairy free and gluten free options are available on some items – ask staff for options.
In line with NHS and Government guidelines the staff of Route 2 Café are practicing the highest hygiene protocols for the safety of customers and staff alike. The team asks customers to help maintain these standards by:
- Respecting a distance of two metres between each person in the queue
- Using contactless payment only
- Being patient as staff undertake a few more procedures than normal to serve you
- Staying away if you have any symptoms
The takeaway hatch opened on Thursday 18th June and will initially be open Thursdays through to Monday, keeping to the cyclist-friendly café’s pre-Covid opening hours; 8am to 5pm, with a clearly marked one-way system. Visit Facebook or the website for updates as the business responds to the ever-changing situation.
