New Head Of HR For Fast Growing South West Accountancy Firm

Thomas Westcott Chartered Accountants has appointed Simon Irvin as Head of HR. This strategic role has been created to support the firm’s growth and development across the South West.

With 30 partners and more than 250 staff operating from 17 branches, Thomas Westcott has the largest network of accountancy offices in the region.

Simon’s 20-year HR career has included senior roles at Bishop Fleming, Bovey Castle, the Wrigley Company and, most recently, as Head of HR at accountancy firm Albert Goodman, which has offices in Somerset and Dorset. He was the driving force behind Bovey Castle and Bishop Fleming being ranked in the prestigious Best Companies to Work For lists.

Simon grew up in Exeter, attending Exeter School before pursuing a Personnel Management degree at the University of Plymouth. He joined Sainbury’s as a graduate trainee, where he took on a range of management and HR roles over eight years. A keen squash and racketball player, he has represented Devon at a national level.

Thomas Westcott Managing Partner Shona Godefroy said:

“Simon brings significant experience in the accountancy sector and insight into how we can continue our journey to support our teams and ensure the firm’s ongoing success. He is, of course, joining at an extraordinary time and his immediate priority will be to advise the board as we prepare for the future post-lockdown. This will be about creating a safe working environment, reviewing flexible working options and continuing our progress in promoting employee wellbeing.”

Simon Irvin said:

“Thomas Westcott is a very well established firm but one that is also dynamic and refreshingly open to new ideas. In addition to being attracted to the firm’s forward-thinking approach, I was also excited by the prospect of working in my home county and building on my professional contacts and connections in Devon. At any time, but especially in the current pandemic, employees’ welfare and engagement are my key concerns. The firm has been doing a great job of communicating with its teams during these challenging times and my focus will be to ensure people continue to be well looked after as the situation develops.”
