JHP Recruitment Ltd, are specialist recruiters who currently focus on two areas – The Veterinary Industry and the Hospitality and Catering Industry.

The main area of the business is the Veterinary division which supplies locum and permanent candidates into Veterinary clinics.

Working with first opinion clinics, hospitals and referral centres across the UK, as well as having clients in Europe, the Middle East, Australia and India, the recruitment division covers a vast geographic area and supplies all levels of candidates from Clinical Directors to Veterinary Surgeons; Veterinary Nurses and Assistants to Receptionists, no area of expertise is beyond their reach.

Heading up the Hospitality and Catering Division, Hannah Lane, who specialises in Hospitality and Catering, is a trained Chef with a vast knowledge in her field of expertise.

Joining the team in 2017, she brought a wealth of experience from recruiting within the hospitality and catering industry and works across the South West of England, supplying permanent and temporary staff at all levels, from front of house to Senior Management. Hannah has worked with an array of clients from hotel groups and restaurants to event companies and sporting stadiums.




The Catering division is growing fast and the business plans to add an additional 2-3 consultants to work alongside Hannah so that the area can be expanded. Training is also provided, with candidates being put through the ‘Food Hygiene Level 1’ course to ensure that they have adequate knowledge of their surroundings when being placed in a kitchen environment.

Nominated for three awards in 2018, saw JHP Recruitment walk away with the ‘Best Veterinary Recruitment Specialists UK’ award at the Lux Pet Product and Services Awards and they are also on the short list for ‘Best New Start-Up Business’ at the Express & Echo awards – watch this space as winners will be announced at the awards night on the 18th May 2018.

The focus on excellent client relationships and customer service has given JHP Recruitment an outstanding reputation locally, which is key to their success. They also pride themselves on keeping up-to-date with any changes in the Veterinary industry; including any changes to legislation within recruitment.

Justin Powlesland, Director of the business, was recently asked to write and record a webinar on behalf of the ‘British Veterinary Nursing Association’ (BVNA). It was so well received by its members that he was asked to be a guest lecturer at the BVNA Congress in 2017 and has been asked to return in 2018.

With a team of 12 – who strive to work in unison and are the epitome of what the word ‘team’ means – the consultants are always there to support each other. This creates an environment of success and forms part of the excellence that exudes from JHP Recruitment. The team are fortunate enough to have 2 Consultants who have worked within Veterinary clinics for many years, thus bringing invaluable experience to the division, as well as giving them the edge when it comes to understanding the industry.

As there is currently a high demand for qualified Vets and Vet Nurses across the UK, the JHP Recruitment team have been assisting Vet Schools by attending Career Fairs and by giving advice to Veterinary Students, such as, which direction they should take their careers. The high demand for Vets and Vet Nurses in the UK also attracts more people into the country who are looking for work and needing to obtain ‘registered status’ on the RCVS Register (Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons). JHP Recruitment work closely with these candidates, helping them pass their OSCE exams and their knowledge and expertise in these areas set them apart from some of their rival companies.

Recognised for their expertise, the business has been asked to write and present 4 webinars in 2018 for ‘The Webinar Vet’ who have in excess of 40,000 members. These webinars are on a range of subjects from ‘Life as a Locum’ to ‘Mental Health & Well-being’ and will be used to assist Vets and Vet Nurses with their CPD (continuous professional development).

Veterinary locums in the UK need to fund their own CPD, so the JHP Recruitment team has aided by giving away over 180 tickets to CPD events such as the BVNA Congress, BSAVA Congress, Vet Festival and for webinars with the ‘Webinar Vet’. They are hoping that by helping locums that it will lead to improved knowledge and help with skills development.

Hosting stands at various Veterinary Shows across the UK, is a great way for the team to meet many of their current clients and candidates as well as providing the opportunity to meet new ones. The team also attend local Catering Fairs and recently attended a career fair at Channings Wood Prison. The prison is committed to enabling men to lead law-abiding and useful lives whilst in custody and after release. The team were given the opportunity to speak with inmates who are due for release and who have undertaken a catering qualification whilst serving their time.

Moving to new, larger offices in May 2018, which are double the size of their current office, is the result of growth in a successful business and as such, two new Consultants roles have recently been advertised for. With many applications having been received, it is only a matter of time before two more passionate individuals add their wealth of knowledge and expertise to the business.

JHP Recruitment plans on expanding to incorporate the need for Veterinary professionals in non-clinical roles to meet the needs of some of their clients, which should take place over the next 12 months. They are also looking to add 2-5 more Consultants within the ‘clinical team’ over the next 2 years, to try and cement their place as one of the UK’s best ‘Veterinary Recruitment Agencies’.

Hoping to attend the ‘New York Vet Show’ in November 2018, the team looks to expand their client base internationally as well, concentrating on working in the United States.

The business is not just about recruitment, however, as they believe in giving back to the community by sponsoring two children’s football teams – Broadclyst under 7’s and the under 9’s. They are also in talks with St Martin’s football team to potentially sponsor them next year and will also be the sponsors of a local ‘South Devon Horse Show’ that is coming up shortly.
