Want People to Work for You? It’s All About Creating a Buzz!
Unemployment’s low and good candidates are in demand so you’re competing against other companies to get a job offer accepted. Making a candidate feel good goes a long way.
So how do you get that right in the interview and give candidates a real buzz about joining you?
1. Delivering your vision and inspiring
Successful clients do this in bucket loads. Speaking to candidates who’ve had this in their interview – it shines through. You can tell they’re blown away by the great initial opportunity and potentially the longer-term fit.
2. Committing to the long term
What are the progression opportunities? Can you give examples of internal successes? Is there a training budget? Spelling these out demonstrates you’re in it for the long haul.
3. Don’t hang around
Respond quickly to applications and get people in immediately for interview. The same goes for making an offer – don’t delay.
4. Offering an excellent salary – and other rewards
Make an offer the candidate will jump at. Consider market rate and company pay scales but don’t ‘under offer’ – you want to secure ‘your’ new recruit and for them to have bags of enthusiasm about joining you.
5. Listening and being flexible
This helps overcome any possible stumbling blocks. A little flexibility on hours? Help towards transport costs? Building this in to the benefits on offer can make a candidate feel valued before they’ve even started!
