Brexit Ready Exeter – 29th October 2019

Brexit is quickly approaching, bringing change for businesses of all sizes and in every sector. Being prepared is essential. Brexit Ready Exeter, a collaboration between Exeter Chamber of Commerce and InExeter with funding from the Department for Business Innovation and Skills, has brought together expert advisors delivering practical advice and non-political guidance in a series of easily accessible, free events to ensure that Exeter businesses are not facing these changes alone and unsupported.

The free Brexit Readiness Training on Tuesday 29th October includes all aspects of Brexit with a focus on a no deal scenario. The training covers the central topics of Employment, Data, Funding, Selling to the Public Sector, Intellectual Property and Import and Export.

Practical Preparation without Politics

Ahead of the Brexit Readiness Training day on 29th October we caught up with solicitor Charlotte Smith, from Ashfords LLP, who will be leading a workshop on continuing legal transfers of personal data after Brexit.

Charlotte is a Solicitor in the Commercial Team and Technology Sector at Ashfords, regularly advising clients on data protection issues for private sector and public sector clients including advice on data processing and data sharing agreements, privacy policies, subject access requests, advice on cookies compliance and international data transfers.

She says,

“Cross-border personal data transfers within the EU are an everyday occurrence and it is important for businesses to know the steps they need to take to ensure that such data transfers can continue post-Brexit compliantly and without friction. We will talk you through the legal safeguards that companies can put in place to ensure that their EU customers can continue to transfer personal data to them and discuss the future of personal data legislation post-Brexit. We will cover the US Privacy Shield, standard contractual clauses, the appointment of representatives in the EU and illustrate this through easy-to-follow examples.”
