The Family Law Company: Mentoring
Donna Hart from The Family Law Company shares about Mentoring and why it’s an important part of their business.
As a company we believe it is important to encourage the next generation of lawyers, so we have introduced a mentoring scheme that applies to everyone, from junior to experienced staff.
We endeavor to match mentors and mentees, putting together people who don’t usually work together to provide objectivity and fresh input.
Business Development Director Rachel Buckley is studying alongside her mentee Jemma Breban who wants to improve in her marketing role; both are taking NVQs in marketing. Some Senior Associates are not only mentoring but being mentored themselves as they look to moving up the career ladder.
Fiona Wadey is being mentored by Rachel, whilst mentoring solicitor Hannah Porter and recent graduate Chloe Farmer, currently a legal secretary. I started my own career in law as an office junior and I’m delighted now to be mentoring office junior Becka Combes who is keen to follow in my footsteps and move into studying within the CILEx structure to eventually become a lawyer.
We encourage those on our mentoring scheme to have informal meetings away from the office; this is proving to be the best way for them to set goals and think about how these can be achieved.
Mentoring to us means befriending, developing and engaging; building confidence and helping define a clear career path within The Family Law Company.
